Optimize status loader just keeps spinning. No optimization takes place.

When I click "Optimize" beside an image the status loader just keeps spinning. It never stops and the image is never optimized. I also use Securi.net and was wondering if perhaps this is some kind of firewall issue or if I have to whitelist an IP or something? Any idea? I have used this Joomla extension successfully with the same site in the past but something changed along the way and it no longer works.
